Critical Analysis — What This Bill Actually Does
Legalized medical assistance in dying (MAID) with initial safeguards requiring "reasonably foreseeable" natural death. This was subsequently expanded by C-7 (43-2) to remove the "reasonably foreseeable" requirement, and further extended by C-39 and C-62 (44-1) to delay but plan for expansion to mental illness. The original bill's safeguards have been progressively weakened through subsequent amendments.
